If you have taken the first abortion pill and you are having second thoughts, you are not alone. Many women describe feeling rushed, overwhelmed, or pressured, and then quickly wishing they could choose differently.

If you have taken mifepristone and want to try to continue your pregnancy, abortion pill reversal may be an option. Time matters, so it is important to act quickly.

HOW THE ABORTION PILL WORKS

A medication abortion typically involves two drugs.

The first pill, mifepristone, blocks progesterone. Progesterone is a hormone your body naturally produces to support and sustain a pregnancy. Without enough progesterone, the lining of the uterus can break down and the pregnancy may not continue.

The second drug, misoprostol, is taken later and causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy.

If you have taken mifepristone but have not yet taken misoprostol, there may be an opportunity to try to counteract the effects of the first pill.

WHAT IS ABORTION PILL REVERSAL

Abortion pill reversal involves giving progesterone to support the pregnancy after mifepristone has been taken. Since mifepristone works by blocking progesterone, the goal of reversal treatment is to provide additional progesterone as quickly as possible.

Progesterone is a hormone that plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining early pregnancy. It has been used safely in pregnancy for decades to support women at risk of miscarriage or preterm birth.

Time matters. Abortion pill reversal is most effective when started within 24 hours of taking mifepristone, though treatment may still be attempted up to 72 hours after the first pill.

IS IT GUARENTEED TO WORK

Abortion pill reversal is not guaranteed to be successful. Outcomes vary depending on how far along the pregnancy is, how quickly treatment begins, and individual medical factors. However, the Abortion Pill Rescue Network has documented thousands of successful outcomes. Every situation is different, and no outcome can be promised. The most important step is to get medical guidance immediately.
