A teenage magazine that’s supposed to promote fashion, makeup, and the latest drama going on in pop culture.
Now, Teen Vogue is advertising and promoting to young teenage girls how to get an abortion secretly, without their parents knowing and how to get around state abortion laws.
Earlier this summer, a girl sent in a question to Teen Vogue’s “Down to find out” magazine column, in which Nona Willis Aronowitz discuses and answers questions about dating, sex, and relationships. The sixteen year old asked “I’m 16, pregnant, and don’t want to be. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to get an abortion without my parents consent, but I’m scared to tell my parents because they are both againist abortion. What should I do?”
Aronowitz wrote back… “having access to abortion should be your legal right, regardless of your parents belief…” she continued “So let’s talk logistics: Your first step is knowing your state’s rules when it comes to parental consent (though there are ways to sidestep those rules depending on what state you are in).”
So first Teen Vogue explains that girls can/should get an abortion, regardless of what their parents say. Then, they say that you can get an abortion without your parents consent, even if it’s illegal, because there are ways to work around the laws.
There’s a few things Teen Vogue failed to mention though.
They failed to explain what an abortion is. Not once did they say what the abortion process is like. Not once did they explain what would happen before, during, and after the procedure.
They also failed to explain the dangers of an abortion. Blood clots in the uterus, pelvic infections, hemorrhaging…
Not once did they mention the other options that girls have when they find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy.
Young women need to know there are other options and plans that don’t bring shame, and hurt, and judgment, but instead bring hope, healing, and restoration.
The abortion issue has been a huge problem and topic in America over the last 60 years, but it’s gotten even bigger now. In 2019, teen magazines are offering help to young girls get an abortion, illegally and without their parents knowledge.
In most states across America, if you are a minor, you cannot go see a dermatologist, obtain body piercings and tattoos, or even purchase cough syrup without your parent’s permission. But you can get an abortion without your parents’ consent or knowledge.
Teen Vogue… if you really wanted to help the girls in America, specifically help them regarding with unplanned pregnancies, you wouldn’t encourage them to hide from their parents and act in secret—you wouldn’t encourage them to find “sidesteps” to state abortion laws. Instead, you would offer information about all the options that are available when a girl finds herself pregnant.
In the words of Ronald Reagan, “I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion, has already been born.”
