What is the Student Panel?

The Student Advisory Panel is made up of students from York County High Schools and surrounding colleges. These students learn, volunteer, and participate in events that promote living pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-love.

The Student Panel meets once a month to discuss current pro-life issues and events, and how they affect not only their peers but also the world around them.

Healthy Relationship Curriculum

REAL Essentials curriculum will be administered throughout York County High Schools.  REAL Essentials administers a curriculum that educates students about healthy relationships.  The curriculum specifically talks about protective factors, administers as a tool to assess the characteristics of sex and STD/HIV education programs, includes a systematic method for assessing risk-avoidance tool (SMARTool), and a general health education curriculum analysis tool. The innovative curriculum is being used across the country to teach high school students critical relationship skills and practical approaches for navigating the social dynamics of friendship and love.

Activities include helping students recognize their own identity and how it affects their relations with others, how to recognize and respect differences in others, effective communication techniques for navigating conflict and expressing oneself, how to develop health dating strategies and ideas for staying connected with good friends, safe social media guidelines and viewing advertisements through an accurate lens, creating vision and applying it to future dreams and success, the benefits of commitment and marriage, developing leadership skills for gaining future employment and keeping a job, and sex in the context of love and its effect on whole person health

In York County the Palmetto Women’s Center currently is administering this curriculum in a week long on-site interactive classroom curriculum at South Pointe High School. Prior to the week of classroom time, Palmetto Women’s Center hosts a Parent Panel to discuss the goals and objectives of the curriculum.  An additional Parent Forum is conducted after the completion of the curriculum to summarize experiences and continue to build the continuum of resources and skills for the growing youth of York County.

PWC hopes to extend services to all 18 high schools and over 400 churches and several higher learning institutions in York County with additional partnerships and shared resources within York County.
